Is Jua Zanzibar an adults-only boutique hotel?
Yes. Jua Zanzibar is an intimate adults-only boutique hotel, designed for guests seeking privacy, tranquillity and a peaceful escape.
With just four private villas, we offer a highly personalised experience, far from the atmosphere of large resorts.
Where is Jua Zanzibar located, and how far is it from the airport?
Jua Zanzibar is located on the beautiful Michamwi Peninsula, on the southeast coast of Zanzibar.
The journey from Zanzibar International Airport takes approximately 60 to 90 minutes, depending on traffic.
Does Jua Zanzibar have a reliable electricity supply?
Yes. Jua Zanzibar is equipped with solar panels, battery storage and a backup generator.
As occasional power interruptions can occur in Zanzibar, these systems help us maintain a reliable electricity supply and minimise disruptions to our guests’ comfort.
What makes Jua different from a traditional resort?

With only four villas, private plunge pools, an oceanfront swimming pool, spa facilities, a tennis court and a gym surrounded by tropical vegetation, everything is designed around your own pace.

Are all the villas the same, and does each one have its own private pool?
Yes. All four villas feature the same layout, furnishings, facilities and level of comfort.
Each villa has its own private plunge pool, spacious living areas and beautiful ocean views.
All villas are designed to provide the same intimate and peaceful atmosphere, so guests can enjoy the full Jua experience whichever villa they stay in.
Do the villas have air conditioning?
Our villas are designed around natural ventilation rather than conventional air conditioning.
Their open architecture allows the ocean breeze to circulate freely, complemented by fans to enhance comfort.
This natural connection with the surrounding environment is an essential part of the Jua experience.
Without glass windows, how can the villas be darkened at night?
Our villas feature an open architectural design, without traditional glass windows.
The sleeping areas are fitted with curtains that soften the incoming light and provide a comfortable sleeping environment. However, they are not blackout curtains, and some natural light enters the room at sunrise.
For guests who are particularly sensitive to morning light, we recommend bringing a comfortable sleeping eye mask.
How are mosquitoes and insects managed in the open villas?
Being surrounded by tropical nature is part of Jua’s charm.
The sleeping areas are protected by mosquito nets, and our team takes measures to minimise insects while respecting the natural environment.
As in any tropical destination, occasional encounters with insects or small wildlife are possible.
Is Jua located directly on the ocean, and does it have a private beach?
Yes. Jua enjoys a beautiful oceanfront location with a private beach area reserved for our guests.
Our peaceful setting offers beautiful ocean views and an intimate atmosphere, away from crowded beaches.
Can guests swim in the ocean at any time? How do the tides work?
Zanzibar’s coastline is influenced by the natural rhythm of the tides.
Approximately every six hours, the tide changes between high and low, following a cycle influenced by the Moon.
This means that throughout the day, the ocean appears to come closer to the shore and then retreat, revealing stretches of sand and seabed.
Importantly, high and low tides do not occur at the same time every day, as their timing gradually shifts with the lunar cycle.
Low tide is also a wonderful opportunity to enjoy beautiful walks along the exposed shoreline, discovering the ever-changing coastal landscape.
Swimming conditions vary depending on the tide, but guests can enjoy our oceanfront swimming pool or relax in their private plunge pool regardless of the ocean’s natural rhythm.
What is the difference between Classic All Inclusive and Signature All Inclusive?
At Jua Zanzibar, we offer two All Inclusive experiences, allowing guests to choose the one that best suits their preferences.
Classic All Inclusive
Includes meals, selected beverages and laundry service, offering a relaxed and carefree experience throughout your stay.
Signature All Inclusive
Includes all the benefits of Classic All Inclusive, plus:
- One spa treatment per person per day
- One bottle of sparkling wine per day
Can Jua accommodate food allergies, intolerances and special dietary requirements?
Absolutely. At Jua Zanzibar, we believe every guest is unique, and our dining experience reflects this philosophy.
We have welcomed guests with lactose intolerance, dairy-free and gluten-free requirements, as well as vegetarian and vegan preferences.
Our kitchen team can adapt dishes and menus to individual dietary and health-related needs. Please inform us of your requirements before arrival so that our chef can prepare accordingly.
If you have a severe food allergy or coeliac disease, please contact us in advance so we can discuss your needs and any possible risks of cross-contact in our shared kitchen.
Are there fixed times for breakfast, lunch and dinner?
At Jua, we believe that holidays should follow your rhythm, not a timetable.
Breakfast is served without rigid schedules, allowing you to start your day whenever you wish.
Lunch and dinner are freshly prepared and served at the table, rather than buffet-style.
Our team is also happy to accommodate dietary preferences and special requirements when informed in advance.
What facilities and activities are available at Jua?
Guests can enjoy our oceanfront swimming pool, private plunge pools, tennis court, gym surrounded by nature and spa treatment areas.
We also offer selected experiences, such as Swahili cooking classes, wellness activities and local cultural experiences.
Some activities are complimentary, while others may be available at an additional charge depending on the experience and the package booked.
Can Jua organise excursions and activities around Zanzibar?
Absolutely!
Our team can help arrange a variety of experiences, including private boat trips, snorkelling excursions, visits to Stone Town, cultural tours and romantic sunset experiences.
We can also suggest activities based on your interests, whether you prefer discovering Zanzibar’s culture, exploring the ocean or simply enjoying a relaxing day.
Can airport transfers be arranged, and how much do they cost?
Yes. We can arrange private transfers between Zanzibar International Airport and Jua Zanzibar.

Our villas are reached via an uphill pathway through the tropical gardens.
